Attempts to build a multicultural society in Germany have “utterly failed”, Chancellor Angela Merkel says.
She said the so-called “multikulti” concept – where people would “live side-by-side” happily – did not work, and immigrants needed to do more to integrate – including learning German.
The comments come amid rising anti-immigration feeling in Germany.
A recent survey suggested more than 30% of people believed the country was “overrun by foreigners”.
The study – by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation think-tank – also showed that roughly the same number thought that some 16 million of Germany’s immigrants or people with foreign origins had come to the country for its social benefits.

Considering Merkel's earlier remark about it being unavoidable that Germany will become a Muslim nation, this is quite a surprise. At last, the Chancellor is admitting a truth that we National Socialists have long understood: Multiculturalism simply does not work.
Humans are "tribal" by nature. We instinctively fear and mistrust those who are "not one of us." We naturally favour our own before outsiders. When different "tribes" are forced to live together, it creates tension and stress which often manifests itself in violence and other crimes.
Is it a coincidence that the crime rate and social violence has skyrocketed the more multicultural we become? NO! Our social ills are nothing more than a symptom of that dreaded disease called multiculturalism. And like a cancer, as it spreads, the symptoms become more pronounced, and more intense.
What's the cure? A return to segregation. It is now a proven fact that peoples of vastly different cultures and social morays CANNOT live together and coexist peacefully as individuals. However, if we return to segregation, it will be easier to live peacefully in our own homelands or regions, and work together as groups, rather than as individuals.
Multiculturalism is an idealistic dream whose time has come - to pass away.

the word multicultural is just a divertion.
in germany go to a scocial security agency at the first three days of any month and you will see a long line of people handing in papers for there monthly allowance. in towns more than 90% will be non german.
one peron gets 356 Euro plus rent, a flat for one person can be around 40qm for a family with one child 72qm but that differs from county to county. this monthly allowance is for people who are able and willing to work. if you are not willing the agency can cut it. for a single mother with child who can't work there is another set of rules. naturaly everyone who is on Harts IV (social welfare benefit)gets free medical service even if he or she needs a new liver or needs the very expensive aids medication. the are cases where people came to germany just for these for unemployed free medication, how insane can it get?
until a few years back that is after the year 2000 a foreigner who was legaly working in germany lets say a turk could send his whole family of 10 members still living in turky free of charge to a doctor or clinic in turky and the german social community of the health insurance company or health insurance of guilds or something like that where he has to be insured by his employer by law pays the bill.
